Oh Danny, it's the time of year when Irish bagpipes thunder through the concrete valleys of New York, the lazy boughs of Savannah, Georgia, and  the halls of the White House as the United States celebrates St. Patrick's Day.
St. Patrick's Day with parades, pub crawls and a state visit. thousands of tourists and residents filled the oak-shaded plazas and  sidewalks of downtown Savannah on Friday.The town parade, which has a centuries-old tradition, is the largest in the south. 
Experienced parade watchers arrived before dawn to take seats at the  picnic tables and marquee. The bars opened at 7am to accommodate customers who were already thirsty for beer and a Bloody Mary.
New York's annual parade, believed to be the largest and longest-running in the world, drew huge crowds down Fifth Avenue waiting for bagpipes and marching bands to pay homage to Ireland's patron saint. 
"As we walk down Fifth Avenue," New York City  Mayor Eric Adams said at the annual St. Patrick's Day breakfast, "it looks like everything is turning green." 
Irish immigrants have a long history of being Helping New York  become what it is today — one of  many groups that, as the mayor put it, "make our city and  us great."

"You have spirit, brother!said an onlooker, patting Trout on the shoulder as he and his wife Diana walked the streets ahead of the parade. A couple from Camp Hill, Pennsylvania traveled to Savannah just to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. patrician.

"There's a lot going on here," said Sheila Barry, a Savannah native who along with a friend scored points along Abercorn Street near the start of the parade route. They packed sandwiches, water, and something else to drink that Barry cunningly dubbed "St. Patrick's holy water.
