Former Vice President Mike Pence expressed concerns about the possibility of a politically motivated indictment of former President Donald Trump, following reports that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg may be preparing to indict Trump for an alleged hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
While Pence acknowledged that no one is above the law, he expressed reservations about indicting a former president and suggested that the investigation and potential indictment were politically charged.
Trump himself has said he expects to be arrested and indicted, and has called on supporters to protest. Pence and Sen. Joni Ernst, with whom he appeared at a foreign policy event in Iowa, emphasized the need for peaceful protests and denounced any violence.
Pence has been making appearances in Iowa ahead of the 2024 Republican caucuses and said he expects to have a decision about a possible presidential bid by the spring.

Both Pence and Sununu emphasized the need for any protests to be peaceful and lawful. They condemned the violence that occurred on January 6, 2021, and during the protests that took place in cities throughout the country in the summer of 2020. They called for those who engage in violence to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Pence declined to comment on whether Trump's call for protests on social media was irresponsible, but he criticized the investigation by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg as being politicized. Pence expressed support for efforts in Congress to investigate the potential politicization of the justice system.
Sununu also criticized the investigation into Trump, calling it a "political circus" and saying that there are more pressing issues that deserve attention.
It should be noted that there is no clear basis for Trump's claim that he expects to be arrested on Tuesday regarding the hush money payment made during his 2016 presidential campaign.
